Haribon Foundation officially opened the bird-watching season with the massively successful Octobird Fest last Oct 24 at the Burnham Green in Rizal Park.

The season, Haribon Foundation tells us, goes on every year from October to March, when migratory birds, escaping the cold hard winder, become very visible in our lush tropical lands.

GMA artist and Haribon’s Ambassador for Conversation Enzo Pineda headlined the kite-flying event, which highlighted the perilous plight and importance of the thousands of migratory birds all the way from Russia, China, Mongolia, and South Korea.

Among the most exotic birds becoming visible in the next few months are the Little Egrets, Tufted Ducks and the Brown Shrikes, the Common Sandpiper, Common Kingfishers, and the Whiskered Terns.

Have no idea what these birds look like? Then do yourself a favor and book yourself and your friends for a bird-watching tour with Haribon!

They can take you to Naujan Lake in Mindoro Occidental, Candaba in Pampanga, or as near as LPPCHEA at the Freedom Island in Parañqaue — that’s Lapapachea for you — for several relaxing hours of watching exotic birds.

They say birds are best seen on either magic hours: 5am or 5pm, which can cost you anywhere from PHP500 a head up.

If you can’t get your friends to come with you, give them the finger and join Haribon’s Wader Quest tour, happening on Saturday, Nov 7, on your own instead. The foundation is partnering with an international group for a bird-watching tour at LPPCHEA so making new friends should be easy. Besides, there will be biologists, wildlife researchers and trained bird watchers, so you know you’re in good hands! It will start at 5am and will cost you PHP500/head.
