A man stabbed and killed his girlfriend who he was living with before hurting himself too inside their home in Bato town, Catanduanes province last night. However, he survived the self-inflicted wound and has been arrested by authorities.

Police identified the victim as Hawan Elementary School teacher Liezl Tato, 24, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported, while the suspect was identified as Reymark Tebelin, 28, a tricycle driver, according to Bombo Radyo.

Authorities said that the two got into a heated argument which ended with Tebelin stabbing Tato with a knife in different parts of her body inside their home in Binanuahan village at 8:45pm, Diaryo Bomba reported.

Catanduanes Provincial Police Office Director Police Col. Paul Abay told Diaryo Bomba that the suspect then stabbed himself in the chest.

Both were taken to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Hospital in Virac town, but Tato was declared dead on arrival. Meanwhile, the suspect suffered only a minor injury and is now under the custody of Bato police.

Neighbors believe that jealousy was probably the reason behind the crime.
