Could your family ever be this extra?
Twitter user Renzo Lumanog (@renzorg) shared a now-viral post on Monday about his family having a bato bato pik (rock, paper, scissors) competition on New Year’s Eve.
Lumanog said that the “serious competition” started out as a joke.
“As a joke that started 7 years ago, our clan every New Year’s Eve would have a Bato Bato Pik championship. It’s a serious competition where the champion takes a trophy home for the year.
“On Year 7, our uncle announced they’d retire our old trophy and unveiled a brand new one.”

In one image, viewers can see a photo of Lumanog’s family with the words “The 2019 Bato Bato Pik Championship Season 7.”
In another image, it shows the new trophy with the words “Bato Bato [Pik] World Champions” and a list of the family members who won in the previous years up to 2013.
Lumanog told Coconuts Manila that his whole clan would go to their home to celebrate New Year’s Eve every year.
“We started the Bato Bato Pik tournament so that we can get everyone involved. Our family had an old basketball trophy, and we used that for the time being. We stuck tape on the back and wrote down the winners per year,” he shared.
“Whoever won the tournament, they get to bring the trophy home plus a cash prize. Whoever won the previous year, their family sponsors the tournament’s prize and PowerPoint [presentation].”
The PowerPoint presentation he is referring to is a scoreboard and a showcase of the family members who will compete against each other.
He added: “So [during New Year’s Eve], our tito (uncle) all of a sudden had an announcement, and unveiled the new trophy and we went wild because that was the first year we had a legitimate trophy.”
“Fortunately, my sister won the tournament so the trophy sits in our living room.”
