Passengers of the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) were forced to get off the trains after the transit system suffered a problem.

Hundreds of passengers were forced to take other means of transportation after the transit system stopped working before noon.

MRT operations manager Renato San Jose said six MRT trains were forced to go back to the train depot because their air-conditioning units ran out of refrigerant.

Only 5 MRT trains were operational at noon, and as of 3:30 p.m., 3 of the 6 affected trains were back on track.

San Jose explained that the trains failed to return to the tracks after the MRT maintenance team also ran out of stock of refrigirant. —reports from Robert Mano and Johnson Manabat, dzMM
