Environmental groups will hold a parade on Saturday from Bulungan Market in Parañaque to Freedom Island, a local bird sanctuary, where they will hold a coastal clean-up in the morning and afternoon.
The clean-up, meant to coincide with Earth Day, will be led by the Save Freedom Island Movement and Earth Island Institute Philippines. Ms. Earth Philippines 2013 candidates, actor Raymond Bagatsing, and local fisherfolk from the Unified Marketing Services Cooperative are expected to attend the event.
Bayan Muna party-list Representative Teddy Casiño, who is running for the Senate, and representatives of Kabataan and Akap-Bata party-lists will also be at the clean-up.
Earth Day is observed in more than 192 countries. Organizers said Earth Day is meant to promote “awareness and appreciation of our environment and to demonstrate support for its protection and restoration.”
