A grass fire hit a vacant lot inside the perimeter of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City earlier today.

Lito Raval of the NAIA Terminal 3 Fire Safety Department told Coconuts Manila in a phone interview that the fire started at 8:55am.

Raval told Coconuts that the fire hit a grassy area outside the airport. The fire was at the north side of the terminal, near Bay 124 and the Philippine Airlines hangar, he said.

Airport firemen put out the fire at 10:23am.

Based on initial investigation, Raval said the fire started after a grass cutter’s motor engine exploded.

“It’s possible that it [the motor engine] overheated,” he said in Filipino.

Luckily, no one was hurt and no flights were affected in the incident.
