To encourage Filipinos to exercise their right to vote in this month’s midterm elections, Grab Philippines just announced today that it will offer a PHP50 (US$0.96) discount to voters in Metro Manila and Cebu.
The discount will be given to anyone who books through the ride-hailing app to go to polling precincts on election day, May 13. To use the discount, passengers can enter the code: ONEDESTINATION.
“Misinformed and disenfranchised voters are one of our top challenges in the Philippines during the election,” Grab Philippines President Brian Cu said in a statement.
Cu said Grab wants to cultivate a sense of community and unity among Filipinos, which is why they launched the #OneDestiNation campaign in partnership with the Commission on Elections.
The education campaign aims to help curb voter disenfranchisement and misinformation in preparation for the midterm elections.
For its part, Grab will have its drivers hand out non-partisan voter education stickers and flyers to passengers. They also called on social media influencers and media partners to engage in discussions that will help debunk voting myths and encourage people to vote on their respective platforms.
