If all goes well, we may be soon be seeing more “green” tricycles.
“The the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) said it has released PHP505.6 million to the Department of Energy (DOE) to cover the government’s share in an initiative called Market Transformation Through the Introduction of Energy Efficient Electric Tricycle (e-Trikes),” reports Rain Castro on InterAksyon.com.
The report explained that “the project is a foreign-assisted initiative, supported by a loan and grant agreement between the Philippine government and the Asian Development Bank’s Clean Technology Fund (CTF).”
DBM Secretary Florencio Abad was quoted as saying, “Many of us have already spotted a fair number of e-Tricycles running around Manila’s smaller side-streets. Now that the administration has released the government’s fund counterpart for the e-Trike project, we can expect to see more of these e-Trikes plying the routes taken by traditional tricycles.”
May we also suggest that they train the e-trike drivers to be more careful than the daredevil drivers of traditional tricycles? (It’s not easy being green…but, more importantly, it’s not easy being dead.)
