Government to hire 61,500 new teachers

The Department of Budget and Management has authorized the hiring of 61,510 more teachers as the Philippine public education system prepares for the 2013-2014 school year.

Aside from hiring new teachers, the Department of Education will also be redeploying teachers to schools that have a shortage of them, the Philippine Star reports.

Schools that have excess teachers have been directed to compile a list of staff, the grade levels they are teaching in, and the subjects they are teaching. Teachers willing to be redeployed will be given a one-time allowance of P18,000.

The school year begins June 3, 2013 and is scheduled to end on March 31, 2014.
