They have a point…although they may not necessarily be able to afford to make that point.
Members of the Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees (COURAGE) picketed the Bureau of Internal Revenue headquarters in Quezon City on Friday, April 11.
Ferdinand Gaite, the president of the group explained they felt that they were “overtaxed.” He pointed out that “an ordinary government employee receives a gross salary of PHP9,000 a month before the mandatory deductions for withholding tax, government insurance premiums and Pag-BIG and PhilHealth contributions.”
This is why, Gaite said, it seemed unfair that taxes ended up “eating” their income.
