The Final Four fever has lit up search terms, with the numbers skyrocketing the day National University captured its first cheerdance championship on Sept. 15, according to Google. Data from Google Trends show that interest in the Final Four teams NU, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University and University of Santo Tomas peaked during the cheerdance competition. It could be surmised that NU’s victory was among the most talked-about performance online.
Three days later on Sept. 18, UST’s searches reached 100 when it eliminated the defending champion Ateneo de Manila University out of the last Final Four slot. UST saw its numbers rise again when it defeated NU on Sept. 22. Interest was also seen in the DLSU-FEU playoff on Sept. 21, as both teams had an identical 10-4 card. The streaking DLSU convincingly won its match against FEU which seemed to grope for form.
According to Google, the data on the graph is a reflection of how many searches were “done for a certain term over time relative to the total number of searches done on the [search engine] over time.” “The[se] don’t represent absolute search volume numbers, because the data is normalized and presented on a scale from 0-100. Each point on the graph is divided by the highest point, or 100. When we don’t have enough data, 0 is shown,” its explanation read. MM
