Good news Monday: Couple behind animal “crush” videos found guilty

Remember those terrible “crush videos,” where scantily clad girls were shown stomping on animals, skinning a dog alive, plus several other really sick forms of animal cruelty?

Well, the couple behind this, La Union residents Dorma Ridon and her husband Vicente Ridon, have been found guilty of four crimes: Child abuse, animal welfare crimes, human trafficking, and wildlife-protection crimes. Both have been sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine totaling over PHP9million. They’ve been in jail since June 2012.

“This case is a victory not just for PETA Asia but also for Philippine law enforcement and people around the world, who despise cruelty to animals,” says PETA Asia Vice President Jason Baker.

It was PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) who sought the help of the NBI and brought the issue to light. According to an Inquirer.net report, “the young girls in the videos were initially hired to by the couple to look after their children.

“Later on they were asked to dance in their underwear in front of a camera and eventually, ordered to kill small animals.”

Truly sick, we know. Thankfully, this has all been resolved. Good trumps evil! Yay!
