It was a heart-wrenching scene at the last day of University of Santo Tomas law student Horacio “Atio” Castillo III’s wake when his pet, a golden retriever, stayed firmly under the coffin, not wanting to leave his side. The moment was captured and shared by Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri yesterday.

Castillo, 22, died of massive injuries apparently sustained during an Aegis Jvris fraternity hazing. He will be laid to rest today.

So far, only one of the three suspects has surrendered, one has fled to the United States, while the other is still in the Philippines but has not been arrested.

“This is heart breaking,” Zubiri, a friend of Castillo’s father, wrote on Instagram.

A video posted by ABS-CBN News, showed Lega, the golden retriever, wearing a “Justice for Horacio” shirt while under her owner’s casket.

According to Gerardo Castillo, Atio’s uncle, Lega has been visiting her owner’s bedroom and was probably wondering why he hasn’t come home yet.

“My dearest Atio, Lega misses you so bad that she wants to kiss you but she cannot comprehend why you are no longer with her,” Gerardo posted on Facebook.
