She has to be used to disappointment by now.
“The Sandiganbayan has affirmed its decision to deny Pampanga Rep. and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s petition for bail in the plunder case filed against her,” reports Michael Punongbayan in The Philippine Star.
Arroyo is currently under “hospital arrest” at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City due to plunder charges arising from her alleged involvement in the misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office confidential and intelligence funds from 2008 to 2010.
Arroyo was said to be “saddened by the latest rejection by the Sandiganbayan of her lawyers’ petition for bail.” A source said “the setback could affect her already frail health.”
However, the Sandiganbayan isn’t buying that. In its 13-page resolution, it noted: “There is no clear and convincing evidence that taking her out of hospital confinement, where medical attention and facilities abound, will contribute to curing her or at least arrest the deterioration of her health.”
