It’s funny how this “straight-from-the-hospital” news just made the rounds now, because it actually happened earlier this month.
“Former president and current Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo recently had another life-threatening emergency after choking on a piece of broccoli stem,” reports Rio N. Araja on Manila Standard Today.
In a medical abstract, Dr. Martha Nucum, medical team head, said Arroyo was rushed to the emergency room of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) at 1230pm on Sep 2.
Arroyo is under hospital arrest at the VMMC for her alleged misuse of the PHP366-million confidential and intelligence fund of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Anyway, Arroyo had reportedly “complained of coughing, hoarseness and difficulty in breathing after she choked on her food while having lunch in her room.”
So, as the report revealed, “a flexible naso-pharyngo-laryngo-endoscope inserted under anesthesia showed a food particle was lodged in her pyriform sinus.”
Fortunately for Arroyo, she managed to expel the food particle “after forceful coughing.”
Nucum exlained that “Arroyo often has bouts of choking because of esophageal stenonis, or the narrowing of her esophagus.”
Arroyo suffers from cervical spine radiculopathy and degenerative lumbar spine disease.
