Globe contractor accidentally cuts PLDT fiber optic cable in QC

This happened last Fri, Jul 8, but it’s still a story worth retelling.

“At least 5,000 PLDT subscribers in the vicinity of Quezon Avenue and Timog Avenue, Quezon City lost voice and data services after Globe Telecom’s contractor accidentally cut its fiber-optic cable,” reports Louella Desiderio in The Philippine Star.

Globe later issued a statement explaining that its contractor, Levinson, accidentally hit one of PLDT’s lines while implementing an infrastructure project to connect the Bayantel site in Quezon City to the Ayala-led firm’s own mobile network.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe senior vice president for corporate communications, pointed out: “Such accidents do happen in the course of drilling and excavation works to embed terrestrial fiber cables in our public roads. It is inherent in our line of business and all telcos experience these hazards at any time.”

Globe’s contractor, as well as PLDT, deployed several teams to expedite the repair of the fiber-optic cable.

We tried to check follow-up reports but could not find any stating the exact time that the PLDT fiber optic cable was fixed.
