Give back 2012 gift checks, orders COA

Uh-oh, this isn’t going to go down well.

“The Commission on Audit (COA) has questioned the grant of bonuses in the form of gift certificates to officials and employees of the National Wages and Productivity Commission in November and December last year,” reports Mike Punongbayan in The Philippine Star.

In their 2012 report released days ago, state auditors sought an explanation from NWPC officials why they made an “unnecessary purchase” of gift checks which were distributed among commission officials and personnel during the holidays last year.

The audit discovered that the commission bought PHP1.09 million in gift checks using “dormant balances of trust receipts from International Labor Organization funds and refunds from (the) procurement service.”

The COA wants everyone at the NWPC who received gift checks last year to return the amount.
