Philippines National team head coach Chot Reyes admitted that tonight’s game against Qatar will be a tough game.
“They are a good team. This team is the core of the team that we played since 2007. They know their stuff, and they have a great naturalized player in Jarvis Hayes” he said.
Hayes, a 6-foot-7 shooting forward, is leading the FIBA Asia Championship in scoring with 22.5 points per game. The naturalized player was picked 10th overall by the Washington Wizards during the 2003 NBA draft where LeBron James was picked first, Carmelo Anthony third, and Dwyane Wade fifth.
Reyes pointed out that he believes the key for Gilas Pilipinas will be to “switch their thinking” after having played back-to-back games against teams with similar styles of play.
“Now, we have to switch our thinking back to a different style altogether. Big, bruising, physical, pound-it-inside basketball, and that’s Qatar” he said.
The Philippines vs Qatar game tips off at 8:30 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.
