Heads up, nurses: your next job could be waiting for you abroad as more countries look to fill in the employment gaps in their healthcare systems.
Germany, Singapore, and the United States are some of the countries that have recently announced they are looking to hire Filipino nurses to staff their hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Recruitment firm Ruru Global Recruitment Services recently confirmed a US healthcare company was keen on hiring 1,000 nurses and 200 medical technologists. A report by GMA News said that nurses stand to earn the equivalent of PHP400,000 (US$7,025.29) a month — including a US$1,000 signing bonus.
Meanwhile, the German Embassy Manila said that Germany was opening its doors to 600 nurses under its Triple Win program, in partnership with the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA). Applications are open to nurses with at least one year of experience, and may undergo free German language training in the country.
And just last week, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. confirmed that Singapore was in search of thousands of healthcare workers, including nurses.
Filipino healthcare workers are reportedly in high demand due to their work ethic and initiative.
Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople said that the Singapore government was impressed with how the country’s healthcare workers handled the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2020, healthcare workers bore the brunt of overflowing and understaffed hospitals, lack of facilities, and meager pay. Nurses and other healthcare professionals also slammed the Philippines government’s decision to temporarily ban the deployment of hospital workers to other countries while the country dealt with the pandemic, which some criticized as unconstitutional as it violated one’s right to travel and earn a living wage.
