This is Oktoberfest gone wrong.
German student Christian Engel was at an LRT station when he met a woman in her 30s named “Aya”, who was with her aunt. The two women befriended Engel and offered to take him to Quiapo Church, all the time telling him to be wary of thieves,” reports Itchie Cabayan on Journal Online.
After Quiapo, the women brought him to a karaoke bar where the group drank about 16 bottles of beer. A man whom the suspects introduced as a relative joined them, and the group had another round of drinks. Engel said the next thing he knew, he found himself in a hotel room and had no idea what happened. Authorities say he was likely victimized by the Ativan Gang, known to slip a drug on a person’s drink which knocks out the drinker.
Engel lost PHP40,000 in euros and other items.
