After the controversial death of South Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo, several groups and individuals — including House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez — called for the immediate resignation of Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa.
And while Dela Rosa says he respects Alvarez’s statement, he will still not resign over the allegations of “tokhang for ransom.”
In a CNN Philippines report, Dela Rosa said, “‘Yung sa pag resign eh depende yun kay Presidente. Tanungin ko si Presidente kung magkita kami kung paparesignin niya ba ako.“
(My resignation depends on President [Rodrigo Duterte]. I will ask the President when we meet if he will make me resign from my post.)
Ick-joo was abducted in Oct 2016. His body was found in a mortuary in Caloocan City earlier this week. It was Dela Rosa himself who reported in detail how the South Korean national was kidnapped and killed inside Camp Crame, the headquarters of the PNP.
The suspects are now in custody.
