Game over, Nokia

In two days’ time, Apr 25, Nokia will be no more. Fifteen years ago, this would’ve been impossible to even imagine. Nokia was the name of the mobile game and its state-of-the-art 5110, the CP to behold.

Fast-forward 15 years to today and much like the snake that’s grown too big for its 45x45mm screen, the Finnish mobile makers hit a dead end of sorts, on its own. Technology giant Microsoft bought Nokia’s Device Division, “a purchase worth USD $7.1 billion,” reports Bong Lozada on Inquirer.net.

“In a leaked letter, Nokia Oyj would become Microsoft Mobile Oy,” the report continues. The same letter states that under the terms of sale, Microsoft will assume all rights benefits, and obligations of Nokia Devices and Services.

By the way, words ‘Oyj’ and “Oy’ are used in official branding to connote that the company is a public company.

Do you still have your 5110s or your 7250s? What was your highest score in the snake game?
