Game Development could be next big thing in BPOs, DOST says

Game development, an industry that could provide work for 15,000 workers in the next three years, is one of the sectors that will be highlighted at the National Science and Technology Week on July 23 to 27.

The Department of Science and Technology-Information and Communications Technology Office (DOST-ICTO) will be promoting the development as a potential career track for Filipino youth.

“With an estimated 4,000 workers that are currently in the industry, the Game Development Association of the Philippines (GDAP) is targeting to increase this number to 10,000 by 2015 and hopes to reach 15,000 workers in three years,” DOST-ICTO executive director Monchito Ibrahim said.

Aside from National Science and Technology Week at SMX Convention Center in Pasay, the DOST-ICTO will also be promoting game development and other sectors of the business process outsourcing industry on roadshows in the provinces.

The agency said that aside from call center agents, the BPO industry also needs programmers and developer, game producers, Quality Assurance analysts and testers, game designers, artists, animatoris, art producers, sound engineers, and game managers and community managers.
