Those who hate having to wait in line at the bank for hours will surely be able to relate to this guy.

A video post on social media last Monday has now gone viral for hilariously showing how much can be done in the time that it would take to wait for one’s turn in a bank.

Facebook user Luis Ginno, who wished to only be identified by his given names, recorded and edited the video himself. In it, he does a long list of things just to kill time while waiting for his turn in a bank, which includes driving back home, doing laundry, cooking noodles, and watching a show on Netflix. The video ends with him going back to the bank and finding out that he still has to wait for his turn.

The video, of course, was exaggerated but many found that it perfectly captured their frustrations about waiting in line. It has been shared more than 23,000 times and has almost 2.1 million views as of this article’s posting.

In an interview on Facebook Messenger with Coconuts Manila, Luis said he was inspired to create the video after he was made to wait in a bank for a long time.

He said he had just gotten off a night shift at work when his mom asked him to deposit money at a nearby bank. He got a stub that specifies what number he is in line then found out that it was way after the person being serviced at the time.

“I’m usually a patient guy but I just came from work and was feeling really cranky so instead of getting more irritated I told myself: ‘Why not just do something creative?’ And so I did,” he said.

Luis shot the bank scenes during his visit, while the rest of the scenes were shot in his car and at home. He said it took him an hour to edit the whole video.

For him, the video really captures the frustration that he usually feels when going to a bank.

“With this particular bank, more often than not, they’re really slow. Actually, there was a teller there who messaged me [about the video] and I felt kinda guilty for posting the video. I didn’t expect that it would go viral,” he said.

Luis thinks that the problem lies in the bank’s way of handling transactions, and not in its employees.

“I understand that they’re doing their best too. Maybe it’s the system that has a flaw and not the employees,” he said.

Aside from the teller, Luis also heard from a bank officer who told him he should have filed a complaint about the slow service instead of creating the viral video. But so far, no one from the bank has told him to take the video down from his Facebook account.

The video encouraged some netizens to share their own tales of banking woes. A woman named Mara Calimbahin wrote: “When there are a lot of people [in the bank] there’s only one teller. But when there is no one, the tellers’ booth is full.”

Even if you tell them that you are just getting your card, you still need to fall in line at the ‘new accounts’ [section]. Imagine you have to fall in line for a long time but it will just take a few minutes for them to give you your card.”

A netizen suggested that people should just deposit using one of the bank’s machines or use an electronic mobile system to shorten their waiting time.

On the other hand, another netizen defended the bank by saying that the problem was probably brought by having a lot of clients.
