Ironic doesn’t even begin to describe this.
“Romeo Mejos, 45, a funeral home agent of Prestige Funeral Services, cheated death after a gunman opened fire on him on Saturday morning in Marikina City,” reports Jovic Yee in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Out of the seven shots fired by the gunman, only one bullet hit Mejos. He was taken to a hospital for the gunshot wound on his abdomen. He was then reported to be in stable condition.
The report noted: “While talking on his cellphone and standing outside the firm’s office on J. P. Rizal Street corner Majestic Street in Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City at 11:24 a.m. when he was fired upon by a motorcycle-riding man. Mejos ducked inside the office and ran although one of the bullets struck him in the stomach.”
The report indicated that “the gunman and his companion were riding on a black-and-blue motorcycle with a still-to-be-determined license plate.” They suddenly stopped in front of Mejos and shot him.
Guess what? The report also revealed that “this was not the first attempt on the victim’s life.” In 2013, Mejos was also shot by motorcycle-riding suspects. Back then, he suffered a gunshot wound in the body.
Mejos, as the report said, “told the police that the motive for the shooting may be work-related.” He theorized that “the suspects may be jealous of him since he has a lot of contacts in a hospital in Quezon City.”
