Freshman PMA cadet dies, reportedly after experiencing stomach pains and vomiting

A freshman cadet at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) died yesterday at the school’s Baguio City campus, reportedly after vomiting and experiencing stomach pains.

Darwin Dormitorio, a native of Cagayan de Oro City, was rushed to the PMA Station Hospital after he fell ill while inside the barracks at around 4am yesterday, reported Rappler. The 20-year-old freshman died at the hospital an hour later.

The PMA confirmed the death of Dormitorio in a statement released to ABS-CBN News where they called him “a treasured cadet of the PMA community.”

“Investigation is still ongoing to ascertain the cause and details of his death. [The] PMA assures the public that every cadet’s overall well-being is constantly and systematically being considered in every aspect of education and training,” the PMA added.

Dormitorio belonged to the PMA Class of 2023, which started their training in July, reported The Philippine Daily Inquirer. His parents have already arrived at PMA campus to claim his remains.

The last time a cadet died was in May 2017 when Erwin Christian Vergara succumbed to bleeding peptic ulcer.
