Free ballroom dancing at Fisher Mall a good way to beat the heat

Some malls have skating rinks, the new Fisher Mall in Quezon City hosts ballroom dancing four days a week—for free.

“We were approached by some organizations who asked if we can host something like this for the senior citizens of Quezon City,” explains Adam Larona, Fisher Mall’s marketing officer. “It’s our outreach program and this is not a money-making program. Of course we are grateful that they add to the mall’s foot traffic.”

Fisher Mall is working closely with the local government’s Office for Senior Citizens Affairs and the Senior Citizens Entertainment Activity Committee on this program. The ballroom dancers come on their own, sometimes with dancing instructors.

Located at the old Pantranco station on the corner of Quezon and Roosevelt Avenues, the five-storey shopping center soft-opened in December and is the first commercial mall venture of the del Rosario family, who run a successful fishing business in Malabon.

Compared to malls like TriNoma nearby, Fisher Mall’s airconditioning system has not suffered from the summer heat, humming at a constant 21-degrees throughout the day. No wonder these senior citizens are having a ball.
