He fell in love with the Philippines and now he’s tied the knot with a Filipina.
“Over the weekend, former US Ambassador to the Philippines Harry K. Thomas Jr. tied the knot with long-time Filipina girlfriend Mithi Aquino (no relation to President Noynoy Aquino) at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Upper West Side, New York,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
The wedding was officiated by Filipino-American priest Father Freddy Balinong.
Thomas first met the Aquino—a native of Jolo, Sulu—when the Holland American cruise line was visiting the Philippines in March 2011. Aquino was then a human resources executive for the cruise line.
Aquino walked down the aisle wearing a dress designed by her fellow Jolo native Amir Sali and a veil by Rene Salud.
Thomas has a daughter from her first marriage, while Aquino has two children from a previous relationship.
The couple plan to settle in Arizona, while Thomas is teaching at the Arizona State University and waiting for his next diplomatic assignment.
Thomas says a Philippine wedding is in the works so that those who missed the New York wedding can join the one in the Philippines.
