Former Philippine National Police – Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) chief Getulio Napeñas on Fri, Oct 16, declared his senatorial bid at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Intramuros, Manila.
Napeñas said he will run to pursue justice for the 44 SAF commandos who were killed in the police operation he headed in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last Jan. 25
“Hindi ko ikinakaila na ‘yung hustisya at katarungan ng aking mga tauhan doon sa Mamasapano incident ay hindi pa nakakamit at ito ay mabigat na dahilan na aking isinusulong (I can’t deny the fact that my men haven’t gotten justice for what happened to them in Mamasapano. This is a major part of what I will be advocating),” Napeñas said.
He also promised to push programs for the welfare of policemen.
The former SAF chief is confident that he can mount a national campaign through the help of his supporters.
Napeñas is set to file his certificate of candicacy (COC) for senator under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) senatorial ticket today.
Napeñas was relieved and placed on floating status on Jan. 27, two days after the SAF operation intended to arrest suspected terrorists Zulkifli bin Hir, alias Marwan, and Basit Usman.
He retired from the PNP in July upon reaching the mandatory age of 56.
