Former World Boxing Council (WBC) flyweight champion Malcolm Tunacao is in critical condition after being hacked on Wed, Sep 16, by his live-in partner in their home in Purok Tambis, Barangay Umapad in Cebu.

Police investigators said Tunacao was sleeping when Jessica Grace Tiu attacked him.

A neighbor heard Tunacao’s cry for help and alerted the authorities.

Tunacao’s cousin, barangay councilor Aristotle Tunacao, said the boxer suffered injuries in the head and both arms.

Tiu, meanwhile, admitted that she attacked the boxer out of jealousy over his alleged affair with another woman.

Police recovered the bolo Tiu used in hacking Tunacao. A case of frustrated murder is being prepared by police against her.

Tiu and Tunacao have been in a relationship for 11 years. They both have children from their previous relationships.

The boxer is now based in Japan where he teaches boxing. He just arrived last Sunday to renew his visa and was supposed to travel back to Japan this Sun, Sep 20. (from a report from Edgar Escalante, ABS-CBN News)
