Former OFW arrested for allegedly killing fellow Filipino in South Korea

A former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who is wanted in South Korea for allegedly killing a compatriot was arrested in Candaba, Pampanga province on Wednesday.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) identified the suspect as Yugoslav Magtoto, who allegedly killed his former colleague Angelo Carmen Claveria.

Claveria’s skeletal remains were found in a septic tank near a paint factory in South Korea in April 2018, two years after he was declared missing, Manila Bulletin reported.

Claveria’s remains were identified as his after its DNA matched that of his mother’s, according to Pilipino Star Ngayon. 

Magtoto and Claveria used to work in the same factory in South Korea. According to the NBI, Magtoto killed Claveria because the latter allegedly rejected his affectionsThe Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

Claveria planned to resign from his factory job in order to avoid Magtoto, but he was allegedly killed before he managed to leave the company.

Aside from killing Claveria, Magtoto allegedly stole his belongings, including his debit card which the suspect used to withdraw PHP47,600 (US$913.13) before going home to the Philippines in May 2016.

The suspect was arrested on the basis of a warrant of arrest issued by the South Korea International Criminal Affairs Division, reported ABS-CBN News. He will be flown to South Korea to face criminal proceedings.
