Let’s face it, they’re not the only ones guilty of doing this, but that doesn’t mean they should be exempted from being taught a lesson.
Timoteo Capoquian, former mayor of the town of Gamay, Northern Samar, has been charged with nepotism for appointing his sister as a member of the local water district’s board of directors back in 2008.
Also facing the same charge is Capoquian’s vice mayor at the time, Enrique Gomba, the husband of his sister.
“The Ombudsman said Capoquian and Gomba used their positions to make the appointment, which violated the Revised Administrative Code of 1987,” reports Rhodina Villanueva in The Philippine Star.
The report pointed out: “The law prohibits government officials from appointing a relative within the third degree of affinity or consanguinity to any public office.”
The case against Capoquian and Gomba has been raffled off to the Sandiganbayan 1st Division. Capoquian’s sister has not been named in the report.
