Singer Jay-R Siaboc, a former ABS-CBN talent, surrendered to the police in Toledo City in Cebu for using illegal drugs.
According to an ABS-CBN report, Siaboc is one of over 200 drug users who turned themselves in at the Toledo City police station on Tue, Jul 12 as part of Cebu’s anti-drug campaign.
Toledo City police chief Samuel Mina told ABS-CBN News that Siaboc decided to surrender after rumors spread online that he is a drug pusher.
Mina said Siaboc admitted to using illegal drugs but denied allegations that he is selling drugs.
According to a Philippine Daily Inquirer report, Toledo police recommended Siaboc undergo drug rehabilitation.
“Like other surenderees, Jay-R fears for his life and that he wanted to be a changed man,” PO2 Joselito Genon of the Toledo Police told the Inquirer.
Siaboc (born Eduardo Siaboc, Jr.) is perhaps best known for his stint in the 2006 reality singing competition Pinoy Dream Academy, where he was a runner-up next to winner Yeng Constantino.
He starred in a number of ABS-CBN shows and scored a couple of hit songs such as “Himala” and “May Tama Rin Ako.”
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Yeng expressed support for Siaboc.
“Una sa lahat, maganda ‘yung desisyon na ginawa niya dahil gusto niyang magbago na ng buhay. Pangalawa ‘yung realidad ng political will ni Digong (Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte) makikita mong ganito ang effect na mismong ‘yung mga taong alam nila na may mali silang ginagawa, sila na ‘yung kusang nagsasabi na ayaw na nila nito, ayaw na nilang gumamit ng droga,” she told ABS-CBN.
(First of all, it’s good that he decided to change his life for the better. Second, you can see the effect of Digong’s political will, that the people who did something wrong are the ones who voluntaril said that they want to stop using illegal drugs.
