Philippine authorities arrested a foreigner allegedly linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) that they caught in Manila, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa announced this morning.

The suspected terrorist Fehmi Lassqued was presented at a press conference the PNP held this morning. He was found to be in possession of bombs, firearms, ammunition, and a detailed plan to attack the Philippines.

Lassqued and his Filipino wife Anabel Moncera Salipada were caught by a joint anti-terrorism operation of the PNP and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in an apartment in Ermita, Manila yesterday.

It was first reported that Lassqued was from Tunisia but it turned out that he had a fake passport and was actually from Egypt.

According to Rappler, he had been staying in the Philippines since July 2016 and was described as a top ISIS official by Dela Rosa.

The police have not established what Lassqued’s links are with the terrorist groups in Marawi, Mindanao, which is still under martial law nine months after it was first attacked by the ISIS-linked Maute group.
