Nice one: Foreign Affairs chief blames media for Duterte’s anti-UN rant

By this time, President Rodrigo Duterte’s fiery remarks against the United Nations in a post-midnight press conference on Sun, Aug 21, has been picked up by news agencies around the world.

But behind every big story is insider info that supposedly sheds more light on why the issue blew up in everyone’s face.

A GMA News report noted that Department of Foreign Affairs chief Perfecto Yasay Jr. is blaming the media for causing Duterte’s outburst.

For starters, Yasay said the media should have cut the president some slack when he made scathing comments against the UN “because he was once again confronted with international criticisms of the killings attributed to his war on drugs.”

Moreover, Yasay pointed out that the media should have realized that the president made the statements “in the wee hours of the morning and he was very tired.”

Yasay explained, “He already ended up the press conference as I have observed, but the press were still leading him with a lot of questions, so it is in this context that he made this statements.”

He added, “When you were specially tired, disappointed, frustrated and angry and under these circumstances, we must give a leeway on the part of the President for this kind of reaction. Like us, he is also human, but I can assure you that the President is very responsible in making statements. He does not make statements unless he means them.”

There we have it, the president was just “hangry.”
