Several barangays in Cagayan de Oro City were placed on code red early morning on Tue amid threats of flash floods and heavy rains, the city’s information office said.
It means that residents in these barangays will undergo forced evacuation.
The barangays on code red are Tumpagon, Pigsag-an, Lumbia, Tuburan, Pagalungan, Sansimon, Iponan, Bulua, Pagatpat, and Canitoan.
The city disaster management office issued a similar announcement through Facebook.
The city council of Cagayan de Oro also declared a state of calamity early Tue morning.
Hundreds of families have already fled their homes Mon evening after their communities were hit by strong rains and massive flooding.
Meanwhile, PAGASA on Tue morning raised a red rainfall warning alert in Misamis Oriental province, where Cagayan de Oro City is geographically located.
Heavy rainfall and serious flooding is expected in low-lying areas in the province.
PAGASA added that light to moderate to occasional heavy rains will affect the Zamboanga Peninsula, Camiguin, Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao City, North Cotabato, Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur.
Classes from preschool to high school in the city have been suspended. Suspension of college classes will depend on the discretion of the school heads and administrators.
