Controversial trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. believes Freddie Roach is lying about the condition of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao as the two coaches’ war of words escalate leading up to the May 2 bout of at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Roach has predicted that Pacquiao will knock out Floyd Mayweather Jr. when the two pound-for-pound kings finally face off, a statement that did not sit well with the father.
“Pacquiao ain’t talking,” Mayweather Sr. told Boxing Scene, pointing out that Roach is “the only one who’s talking.”
“Someone needs to get the can of (roach) spray out. They are talking about (how) Pacquiao is faster, stronger,” he added.
“You will see that everything they are saying about him is false, and it will proven on May 2nd,” he stressed.
The elder Mayweather believes that if anyone is going to get knocked out on May 2, it will be Pacquiao.
“If my son jumps on his a**, he’ll be out of there quick,” he said. “It might not go six (rounds). He might not get to six.”
“It might get stopped real early. It depends. It depends on how we feel,” he added.
Roach has been advocating a quick start for Pacquiao, and wants his fighter to go right at Mayweather in an effort to get the American out of his comfort zone.
Mayweather Sr. warns that this tactic will backfire.
“If he thinks he’s going to overwhelm Floyd like that, it’s not going to happen,” he said.
