Where did the love go: The PNoy & Jejomar bromance

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

The end of the week is the perfect time to look back on what’s happened so far. This week, in our first ever flashback album installment, we feature photos of President Noynoy Aquino and sometime-ally Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is running for President in 2016.

Binay got his foot in the political door when he was appointed as Mayor of Makati by former President Cory Aquino back in 1986 — to replace Mayor Nemesio I. Yabut who had died while in office. Binay got elected into the position in 1988 and he and his family have called Makati their bailiwick since then. (Watch our Binay explainer.)

Once nicknamed Cory’s “Rambotito,” Binay is now seen as a thorn on the side of her son’s administration. But they started out so well, as seen in these pictures we gathered from the Malacañang Photo Bureau, the Presidential Communications Operations Office, and Binay himself.

Note to our readers: While all photos below are real, all captions are fictional.

They were friends long ago.

“OK lang kahit pahamak ka sa plano kong tumakbo ng pagka-Presidente nung 2010…friends naman tayo.”

“OK ang itsura mo from this angle.”

“Ikaw talaga Jojo, palabiro!”

“Ang gusto ko talaga sa iyo, nakikinig ka.”

“Close talaga tayo. Pang-#relationshipgoals ang photo na ito.”

“Feeling ko talaga you got my back.”

“I don’t know when our relationship went wrong. Siya ba? Siya ba ang pinalit mo sa akin? Mas bata?”
