First public playground designed by Kenneth Cobonpue now open in Cebu City

Award-winning industrial designer Kenneth Cobonpue was tapped by SM to design its SM Seaside City Cebu’s Sky Park, which covers 20,000 square meters, with Sky Play occupying 1,250 sq m.

Last Fri, Sep 23, the Sky Park was finally unveiled. Philippine Daily Inquirer quoted Cobonpue as saying,  “I agreed to do the project because it would be my first playground. Anything that’s a first, I want to do.”

He added, “It’s the kid in me. I wanted to come up with a playground I could be excited about.”

The report noted: “The result is a play area with dinosaur-shaped sheds and flying saucer-like slides. Cobonpue used sturdy fiberglass for the slides, swings and ladders as well as loosely woven polyethylene strips, the same ones he uses for furniture. The woven strips provide shade but also let light and air through. There are benches on site, again made of fiberglass and woven synthetic strips.”
