The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is launching its new traffic signal system and command control center and we have the photo above to prove it!
According to our source, 25 CCTV cameras were installed over the holidays in Edsa and other key road intersections in Metro Manila — but the target is to have between 200 and 400 by the end of the year.
These pan-tilt-zoom hi-res cameras will transmit images using a fiber optic broadband connection.
The war room is located in the new white, ship-shaped building across the MMDA base in Guadalupe. There are TV monitors on one side of the wall, and the work areas will be set up after President Noynoy Aquino inaugurates the center.

The CCTV cameras won’t be used to apprehend traffic violators — even if the images are clear enough to recognize faces of people on the street or take photos of license plates of cars that beat the red light.
Instead, it will be used for traffic management, not just signalization. “That includes enforcement, directing traffic, rerouting in some cases, etc. Also, so the MMDA can inform the public about traffic conditions,” says our source. This is particularly useful during floods to announce which roads are passable.
Traffic begone!
