A fireman collapsed then died yesterday after attending a ten-day training camp in Laguna province.

Clinton Obedoza, 25, died of multiple organ failure, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said. Obedoza was inside the training ground’s barracks when he suddenly lost consciousness, reported ABS-CBN News.

He was rushed to the Calamba Doctors’ Hospital in Laguna and was then transferred to the intensive care unit of the Chinese General Hospital in Manila where he eventually died, reported television news show Unang Balita.

Obedoza, who had worked as a fireman for two years, was training to qualify for the Special Rescue Unit of the BFP, an elite group similar to a police force’s Special Weapons and Tactics team. The BFP said they were not aware if Obedoza had any pre-existing medical conditions that could have possibly led to his death; they also categorically stated that he was not a victim of hazing.

Obedoza was one of 30 firemen who attended the training camp, reported Radyo Inquirer. Other than Obedoza, another fireman also lost consciousness yesterday but he recovered after being brought to the Calamba Doctors’ Hospital.
