A peaceful Sunday night turned chaotic in the town of Obando, Bulacan yesterday when a fire spread to about 100 homes.
The tragedy happened at around 10:14pm last night in Barangay (Village) Paliwas, GMA News reported.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated but because there was no electricity at the time, it is believed that the fire could have started from a candle left unattended in the nearby public market, ABS-CBN News reported.
A little less than 20 minutes later, at around 10:33pm, the fire had already reached the third alarm, reported radio station Radyo Inquirer.
The fire spread quickly and affected about 100 homes that were very close to each other, ABS-CBN News reported. Residents told the TV station that firefighters took a while to arrive at the scene but the Bureau of Fire Protection denied this.
It was around 11:48pm when the fire was declared under control, according to Radyo Inquirer.
There have been no reported deaths caused by the incident. Victims are currently in an evacuation center in the town hall, according to ABS-CBN News.
