On Mon afternoon, Nov 2, fire hit the still-under-contruction Avant Garde Residences building located between One Corporate Centre and The Exchange Regency Residence Hotel along Meralco Avenue at Barangay San Antonio, Ortigas Center in Pasig.
“The blaze reached first alarm around 1:41pm. Tenants of the surrounding buildings already evacuated at 2pm. The fire, which reached the fourth alarm and was declared under control at 4:44pm,” reports Non Alquitran in The Philippine Star.
The fire caused a traffic buildup and led to the closure of some areas in Ortigas Center.
“Chief Insp. Roy Quisto, the Pasig City fire marshal, said that their initial investigation showed that the fire at the 55-story condominium started on its second-level basement, which later spread to the third-level basement. He added that they were looking at either a cigarette butt left unattended or a blown light bulb as the possible causes of the fire,” reports Jovic Yee in Philippine Daily Inquirer.
