News that Filipinos will no longer need visas to visit Japan is false, the Japanese Embassy in the Philippines said Thursday.
“The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines would like to clarify to the public that Japan has not lifted the visa requirements for the Philippines contrary to the recent reports. However, Japan has opened multiple-entry Visas to Filipinos,” the embassy said on its website.
A link to a story on WorldBulletin, a news website based neither in the Philippines nor Japan, that says Japan has lifted the visa requirement for Filipinos has been spreading on social networking sites.
The government of Japan will allow Filipinos multiple-entry visas starting July 1. Under new rules in recognition of the 40th year of friendship between Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Filipinos will be allowed multiple-entry visas that are valid for three years.
Filipinos are allowed to stay in Japan 15 days per visit.
