Filipinos share their thoughts on Trump’s upcoming PH visit

After new presidential spokesperson Harry Roque’s comparison on the two leaders’ similarities, US President Donald J. Trump and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte finally met at APEC 2017 in Vietnam earlier today (Saturday).

As the last stop of his Asia trip, Trump is also scheduled to arrive in the Philippines on Sunday (Nov 12) for the ASEAN Summit, so our Coconuts Team decided to hit the streets of Manila and asked Filipinos about their thoughts on Donald Trump and his upcoming visit to the Philippines.

While most respondents knew that Trump’s coming over for the ASEAN Summit, most of then struggled to define what “ASEAN” means. For the record, it’s the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

We also asked what Filipinos think Donald Trump should do when he’s in the Philippines. One respondent pointed out, “He should have a parade since it looks like he loves himself.” Another one suggested the perpetual activity for any tourist: “He should eat balut.”

Of course, we also asked Filipinos what issues should be discussed during Trump’s visit.

Without skipping a beat, a guy says, “Climate change.” Others said they should talk about the economy and the price of gas. Another respondent said the leaders should talk about the disputed territory of Spratlys.
