Filipinos repatriated from Syria arrive today

The first batch of 90 Filipinos repatriated from Syria are expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday afternoon, the Department of Foreign Affairs said.

The repatriated Filipinos were scheduled to leave for Lebanon on Monday, and from there, to Manila via Qatar and Bahrain. Sixty Filipinos are flying in on Tuesday on a Qatar Airways flight, with a second batch of 30 expected to fly in on Wednesday on a Gulf Air flight.

The DFA has brought home 3,882 Filipinos from Syria, where a civil war has been raging since 2011. Another 69 Filipinos are in Beirut waiting for flights home.

The Philippine government has been asking Filipinos still in Syria to get in touch with the Philippine embassy to arrange repatriation “as the security situation in the country continues to deteriorate.” Relatives of Filipinos in Syria may also get in touch with the DFA to provide information and contact details of their loved ones there.
