Our hearts go out to this family and others who lost their lives when Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 went down.
“The Gunawan family—Indonesian Budy Janto Gunawan, his Filipino wife Irene, and their children Darryl Dwight, 20, and Sherryl Shania, 15—perished in the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 that crashed on Thursday, July 17, in eastern Ukraine,” reports ANC.
The Department of Foreign Affairs had reported earlier that three Filipinos were on MH17. That was because Irene, Darryl Dwight, and Sherryl Shania were also Philippine passport holders.
The Gunawans were among the 298 casualties of the latest tragedy to befall Malaysia Airlines.

In an interview with ANC on Friday, July 18, Peter Overbeeke, a friend of the Gunawan family, revealed that Budy was a an employee of Malaysia Airlines’ Amsterdam office.
The Gunawans, he said, had been on their way to the Philippines. MH17 had taken off from Amsterdam and was bound for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Gunawans were set to take a connecting flight to Manila.
Irene’s relatives confirmed that the family was expected to be in the Philippines for their annual reunion.
