A Filipino woman was reported missing in Hualien, Taiwan, after a 6.4 earthquake hit the island a little before midnight last night.

The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) Chairman Angelito Banayo said the Philippines has sent a team led by Philippine Labor Attache Cesar Chavez to search for the woman who is working as a caretaker in Taiwan.

“He (Chavez) has just reached the site now. Initial onsite report is there is a Filipina caretaker in one of the buildings, who is still missing,” Banayo told ABS-CBN News.

Banayo said the team is also checking possible injured Filipinos in the hospitals damaged by the tremor. He said there are no reported deaths of Filipinos so far.

According to local media reports, at least four people were killed and another 145 people are still missing.

Banayo said four commercial buildings had collapsed, while two residential buildings were also damaged.

“It’s not as bad as it may sound,” said Banayo, adding that the MECO staff in all their offices are safe.
