In a Catholic country like the Philippines, praying the rosary is not uncommon.

But could that rosary your lola (grandma) gave you actually be “satanic”?

Well, according to the news arm of the Catholics’ Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), it’s not impossible. The article cited the warning of Fr. Ambrosio Nonato Legaspi, a chief exorcist in the Novaliches diocese, on the spread of these supposed “satanic rosaries.”

“Listeners, be careful as the rosaries you might be using could actually be infested or cursed,” Legaspi said during a radio show aired on Catholic station Radio Veritas in August.

He said that some rosaries have allegedly been cursed by the Illuminati and can be seen with symbols like a snake wrapped around the cross, a pentagram, or a sun with rays emanating.

“These were made not only to be simply given away but to deceive Catholics… so that evil spirits will haunt them,” Legaspi said.

He reminded priests that simply blessing religious items will not be enough and that they will need to be exorcised, especially if owners experience paranormal activities.

The Philippines is a predominantly Catholic nation; about 80% of its population are part of the church.

In the article, it was noted that Legaspi was speaking on behalf of the diocese of Novaliches office of exorcism and not the CBCP.
