New York police are now searching for the suspect behind the slashing of a Filipino man in a subway last week.

Noel Quintana, 61, was on his way to work when he noticed that another man on the subway was kicking his bag.  When Quintana confronted the man, the latter took out a box cutter and slashed the Filipino on the face. None of the other passengers came to Quintana’s aid.

Quintana said he didn’t realize his face was badly injured until he touched it and felt the blood on his fingertips. He said he became “afraid” of dying from losing so much blood.

“I thought he punched me or something — and when I saw the reaction of the people in the train I thought I was hit,” he told New York Daily News.

“I saw my hand [was bloody] because I put my hand on my face. It was bleeding profusely,” he added.

Quintana went to the next subway stop where a member of the staff helped him by calling 911. He was brought to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. The wound, which ran across his face, required a hundred stitches.

Meanwhile, the attacker fled the subway when the train came to a stop at First Avenue and 14th Street.

New York police have released images of the attacker and are asking for the public’s help to find him. He was described as between 20 and 30 years old, wore a North Face jacket, red hoodie, blue jeans, red bandanna, and light-colored sneakers.

Quintana said this is not the first time he was hurt on the subway. He was mugged two years ago but it was nothing compared to this attack. He has been taking medicine to help him tolerate the pain on his swollen face.
